Packing Advice for Traveling to Warmer Weather

We all know how stressful it can be packing the right items for an upcoming Trip. I recently left the cold weather in New York and headed to Florida to catch some sun and warmer weather. Not only is it hard to pack for a different climate, but when you return home you’re always adjusting back into what you left behind.

Leaving New York, I was leaving behind heavier clothing items like my winter jacket and sweaters for lighter clothing. It was so difficult to make sure not only that I had proper clothes for the weather there, but that I had everything I needed in my little suitcase. I stick to a couple tips when packing for this recent vacation and any others.

Check the Weather

This might sound obvious, but it’s so important to know exactly what you’re packing for. Weather can change so quickly that it’s important to know if you’ll need a rain coat if it is going to rain or a dress if it’s going to be warm. Make sure to check the weather just before you’re about to leave. This will be the most accurate weather forecast as the weather will change throughout the week.

Always Pack Layers

Even though Florida was a bit warmer than it was at home, it can still get chilly at night. I always pack warmer cardigans in case it gets chilly. These are great to pair with dresses or even t-shirt and shorts. I also try to bring different types of outfits for the climate. This trip I brought more jeans, but opted for more ripped jeans in case it was a bit warmer. I also brought along with me one pair of shorts.

This off the shoulder Jessica Simpson top was perfect for the in between weather. The top had longer sleeves to keep me warm, but also allowed me to not be so warm with my shoulders open. It’s a great in between piece to travel with.

Winter Coats

One of the best investments I purchased was a pack-able puffer coat. This jacket is perfect for traveling because it fits right into a small travel bag that can be put in your suitcase, but is also perfect when you arrive home and have to keep warm. I purchase this exact coat and it was a lifesaver. A small fit perfectly for me as it was true to size.

Reduce & Reuse

In an effort to keep your suitcase light, try to bring pieces that can be worn more than once. By doing this, you’ll pack less and still have the pieces you need. I try to pack less bottoms and mix them up with different tops. This way you have different outfit options. This is also another great use for cardigans. A cardigan or sweater over an outfit can change the whole look of it from day to night.

Fun Fact

Always pack a small container of liquid detergent. Most hotels and resorts will have laundry facilities on site, but this is also good if you run out of items and need to quickly wash something. It’s perfect to help with reusing items. It’s also great to wash out your bathing suits if you’re jumping in the pool!
