Self Tanning Routine

Summertime is approaching and fast! Time just feels like it’s flying by the last few months, which means warmer weather will be here before we know it. So when I think warmer weather I think shorts, dresses and skirts in the near future. With the change in wardrobe comes self tanning season. I love a good spray tan, but when I’m short on time my self tanning routine comes in handy and sometimes you need to get it down with a couple of extra items to avoid streaking or even a blotchy tan.

First step is always to shave and exfoliate before applying any self tanner. Leave some time before applying your tan to do so. The most ideal time would be 24 hours before, but can also be done in the mooring and your tan in the evening, if necessary. This will give you the best application. I use my Billie razor and exfoliate with Hello Body Aloe Vera exfoliator. I also apply lotion to any dry spots such as behind the knees, elbows, etc.

So now it’s time to apply! I found that mitt’s were not giving me the type of smooth tan I was looking for. I was really looking for something that would help me apply the product and not miss a spot. These are my most recommended products for your tan that will switch up the whole tanning experience.

Iconic London Body Brush

I heard a bunch of bloggers talking about this product and was unsure about purchasing it just because of the sticker price. This brush retails for $45 and can be purchased on the Iconic London website or at Ulta.

I was not sure, but decided to try it and can tell you its wroth the price. Not only is it easy to hold and maneuver, so your tan goes on smooth, but it helps significantly not miss any spots. I would recommend ditching the mitt for a brush if you’re struggling with a smooth application.

Looking for a more inexpensive option? Amazon currently has a similar style brush from Bare Minerals called the Bare Minerals Deluxe Tan Brush. This brush retails for $24.50 and has 4.5/5 stars on Amazon. If you’re not sure about the price of the Iconic London Brush, I would recommend this one.

ModelCo Self-Tan Reusable Back Applicator

This product is the holy grail on tanning. If you do not have one, it’s something you will not regret purchasing. I have talked a lot of people into purchasing it just because it comes in handy. This back applicator is perfect for those self tanning that can’t quite reach the spots on their back or don’t have anyone to talk into doing it for them. The tanner goes right on to the middle of the back and you swipe it back and forth to get the surface of your back.

It will make tanning yourself so much easier. I can’t recommend it enough and for only $16.36 on Amazon, it’s well worth it. When you’re done just stick it in your wash and have it ready for the next time you apply your self tanner.

Self Tanner

As for tanner themselves, I switch between different ones depending on what tan I’m trying to achieve. I use Loving Tan 2 Hour Express in shade dark for events or travel. This tan gives you a deeper looking tan in a shorter amount of time and is great if you have to go somewhere fast. On days where I’m looking for a more subtle tan, I opt for the Isles of Paradise Tanning Butter. This gives a lighter tan, which needs more applications over time. It would be good to use this a coupe times a week, where the Loving Tan application will last a little bit longer.

For my face I always use the Isles of Paradise Tanning Drops that gets mixed in to my moisturizer at night. It’s great for getting your face tan, but also does not break my face out. I use shade medium.

These are just a few of my favorite tanning products for my tanning routine. These products will definitely change the way your tan is applied.
